About these terms

Lesefluss is a non-commercial open-source hobby project. These terms govern your use of the website at lesefluss.app and the optional cloud sync service. The Android app and ESP32 firmware are published under their repository's open-source license - these terms do not restrict your use of that code.

Accounts

You may create an account to enable cloud sync of your books, settings, and highlights across devices. You must provide a valid email address. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure. One account per person; do not share accounts.

Acceptable use

Do not use the service to:

• -Upload content you do not have the right to store.
• -Abuse the sync endpoint (rate-limiting applies).
• -Attempt to break, probe, or attack the service, or access accounts that are not yours.
• -Use the service in violation of applicable law.

Handles, names and avatars

Your handle, display name, bio and avatar are shown to other users you connect with. For all of them:

• -Do not impersonate another person, an organisation, or Lesefluss and its team.
• -Do not use unlawful, abusive, hateful or sexually explicit content.
• -Do not upload images you do not have the right to use.

We may reset a handle, remove an avatar or bio, or change a display name that breaks these rules, and may suspend accounts that keep doing so. A handle can be changed once every 30 days; a released handle stays reserved for 90 days.

Your content

You keep all rights to the books and highlights you upload. Storing them with us is to sync across your own devices and, when you choose to, to hand a copy to one friend. We do not access, share, sell, or use your content for any other purpose. See the Privacy page for details.

Content rules and enforcement

Some of what you store can reach other people: your profile (handle, display name, bio, avatar and the reading data you show to friends), books you share with a friend, and text you share in a buddy read or as a highlight. For all of it:

• -Share only books you have the right to share with that person. Do not use sharing to distribute copyrighted works.
• -No harassment, threats, hate speech, sexual content involving minors, or other illegal content in anything another user can see.
• -No impersonation, spam or misleading handles and names.
• -Sharing a book gives one friend their own copy. Before your first share you confirm that you share only what you may pass on: your own writing, public-domain works, or files you are licensed to give to that person. We may remove a shared copy, every copy of a book, or your ability to share when we receive a valid notice.

Anyone can notify us of a violation through the report form. When we find a violation we may remove the content or a profile field, release a handle, suspend sharing for a period or permanently, or close the account. Three upheld notices within 180 days suspend sharing automatically until we have reviewed the account. Whenever we restrict you, we tell you what we did, why, which rule applies and how to contest it (reply to the email or take the matter to court); we never disclose who notified us. Knowingly false notices are themselves a violation.

Service availability

The service is provided on a best-effort basis. There is no uptime guarantee, no SLA, and no support commitment. The service may change, be interrupted, or be discontinued at any time without notice. The Android app remains fully functional offline regardless of the state of this site.

Termination

You can delete your account at any time from within the app, which purges your data from our servers. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or endanger the service.

Disclaimer and liability

The service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by German law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by German law. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.

Changes

We may update these terms. Significant changes affecting existing users will be announced in-app or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
